Schwab Investing Themes is an easy way to invest in ideas and trends you believe in. For each theme, we use proprietary research and technology to select stocks that relate to a trend, market insight, or innovation. You can invest in each theme as built from our research or customize the stocks and weights to stay aligned to your needs and interests.

You should consider your own circumstances and determine which securities are right for you based on your investment objectives, risk tolerance, financial situation, and other individual factors which you should re-evaluate on a periodic basis.

Schwab Investing Themes consist of up to 25 stocks that relate to a trend, market insight, or innovation. We apply a proprietary algorithm that quantifies the companies' relevance for each theme and selects and weights them based on their thematic scoring and market capitalization. The stocks you purchase through Schwab Investing Themes will be individual stocks in your account that you can hold, track, sell independently, or trade collectively as a theme.

Schwab Investing Themes, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), and mutual funds all have important differences in management, trading, and fees. Unlike ETFs and mutual funds, themes are not considered managed funds. Themes give you more control and flexibility. With a theme, you own all the individual stocks and can easily customize your theme to match your investing goals. You can add stocks you want, remove stocks you don't want, and adjust the weight of each stock if you decide to invest more or less heavily in one company or sector. With ETFs and mutual funds, someone else manages the investments in the funds and decides when to make changes, and customers are charged a management fee. Themes have no management fees or trading commissions when trades are placed online. Other fees and charges, such as exchange process fees, may apply.
